More InformationIn the 1950-60s if you wanted the best car radio available in Australia, you bought an Astor. And if you wanted the best Astor, you chose the Astor Diamond Dot push button radio with genuine TRANSISTOR power (who wants valves in this day and age??) Nothing sets off a classic car more than the right radio so if you've a cherished Volvo from this period then look no further for what was in it's day probably the highest end (at 44 guineas = a month’s wages) car sound system you could get in Australia, guaranteed to put a glide in your stride, a swing in your step and a hip in your hop!
Here's something to really press your buttons - an Astor Diamond Dot model JYS dating from around 1960. In excellent condition for its age it presents beautifully with the right amount of patina for its vintage (some corrosion is evident on the push button ends). Just reconditioned by Kevin Chant (best in the biz I reckon) with many new parts it's in top working order and ready to rock and roll. Here's a video of the unit in action https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B1053qWtHntQpn (copy and paste into your browser). With lovely, rich sound that highlights Astor's quality this little treasure would be ideal for any cherished classic from this period including early Amazon and P1800 or late PV.
NB it's a 12V, negative earth unit (but I'm sure there's A Man who could reverse that) and it requires a 15 ohm impedance speaker like this one https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Holden-HQ-Under-Dash-Speaker-15-Ohm-suit-Monaro-GTS-Original-Radio-/113690132307.
